FYI.
"Creating Java Grid Services." By Aaron E. Walsh (Mantis Development
Corporation). In Dr. Dobb's Journal (DDJ) (September 2003), pages
18-23. Special Issue on Distributed Computing. Aaron uses the Globus
Toolkit, a development framework for developing special-purpose grids,
to build Java-based grid services and grid clients. OGSI uses WSDL to
define compliant grid services that are accessible over the Internet
using SOAP/HTTP.

"Grid Services Extend Web Services. A Solid Foundation for Service
Consumer Reliability." By Dr. Andrew Grimshaw and Steve Tuecke. In Web
Services Journal Volume 3, Issue 8 (August 2003), pages 22-26. The
differences between Grid services as defined in the Open Grid Services
Infrastructure specification and Web services are few, so Grid
services do look like Web services. But Grid service conventions are
not superficial in their function; they address fundamental issues in
distributed computing relating to how to name, create, discover,
monitor, and manage the lifetime of stateful services.

"Introducing Open Grid Services. An Infrastructure Built on Existing
Technologies." By Dr. Savas Parastatidis (Chief Software Architect,
North-East Regional e-Science Centre [NEReSC], Newcastle, UK). In Web
Services Journal Volume 3, Issue 8 (August 2003), pages 10-14. In June
2003, the Global Grid Forum (GGF) adopted the Open Grid Services
Infrastructure (OGSI) specification as a GGF standard. OGSI is
essential to the Open Grid Computing vision as it is the foundation on
top of which the building blocks of future Grid applications will be
placed.

"Oracle, Sun and Partners Publish WS Coordination Specification." By
[CBDi Newswire Staff]. In CBDI Newswire: Insight for Web Service and
Software Component Practice (August 01, 2003). In August 2002, IBM,
Microsoft and BEA published the two specifications WS-Transaction and
WS-Coordination. With the Web Services Composite Applications
Framework (WS-CAF) from Oracle, Sun and partners, we now have a
further specification covering similar functionality.
