Creating a Windows shortcut to Taverna
From Taverna 1.4, a nice icon has been included. This document will show you how to create a shortcut and add it to either your desktop or your Start menu.
Since we don't yet have an installer for Windows, you will have to make your shortcut yourself.
(The reason is that Windows shortcuts must contain the full path to the executable.. sad, but true)
Here's the quick summary:
- "Install" taverna by placing the distribution folder somewhere on your computer, say
c:\Program files.
- Right click on
runme.bat and select Create shortcut
- Right click on the
Shortcut to runme.bat and select Properties
- In the tab Shortcut, select Run->Minimized. This will hide the black Java console window
- Select Change icon. Select Browse and find the installed Taverna directory. Select
taverna.ico.
- In the tab General, change the name to
Taverna Workbench
- Press OK. You now will have a nice shortcut
Taverna Workbench that you can double click to start Taverna.
- Move the shortcut to either the Desktop or the Start menu. To edit the Start menu, you will have to right click on the Start button and select either Open or Open all users. Then place the shortcut within
Programs. (The difference is that "all users" will be visible to all users, but to place an icon here you will need administrator rights)
