Link-Up (or sisters) project
myGrid has been awarded one of only 6 projects that link UK e-science activity with related projects in the USA.

San Diego Supercomputer Center interoperability fest Oct 2004
meeting notes and updates from SEEK wiki
- Meeting report.
- Actions arising viewed under the LinkUpActions topic.
There was a proposal at GGF in Hawaii on doing the interoperability fest using simple workflows made of shims (a nice name for adapter kinds of components). We could compare and contrast how different tools and techniques address different aspects of workflow development and management. Two important topics for the fest will be representation and tool functionality. [Carole Goble email 6 July 2004]
For a brief description of a shim see the presentation
Exploring Williams-Beuren Syndrome using myGrid by Hannah Tipney at ISMB 2004.
NeSC workshop May 2004
The
SEEK project ran a
eScience GRID Environments workshop at
NeSC, Wed 12th to Fri 14th May.
The
workshop material is now available on the
NeSC web pages for the event.
The agenda:
- Wed 12th 2 parallel sessions
- Taxonomic Concept Standard, Co-Chairs Jessie Kennedy (SEEK) and Frank Bisby (Biodiversity World)
- Scientific Workflows (Cramond Room), Co-Chairs Matt Jones (SEEK) and Yike Guo (Discovery Net)
- Thur 13th
- AM Introduction to OGSA DAI Tutorial - (Neil Chue Hong, Univ. of Edinburgh)
- PM myGrid Tutorial ( notes NeSCmyGridTutorial )
- Fri 14th 2 parallel sessions
- Semantic data integration, Co-Chairs Bertram Ludaescher (SEEK) and Chris Wroe (myGrid)
- Grid Technologies, Co-Chairs Arcot Rajasekar (SEEK) and Paul Watson (North East eScience Centre)
Bertram and Carole have agreed that the semantic data integration session on Friday will effectively be a
LinkUp meeting, and obviously the tutorial is an opportunity for SEEK to learn about myGrid. see
NeSC-invite.txt: (Bertram's invite)
There are some more details about the meeting on the SEEK wiki, under the
EdinburghMeeting topic.
NeSC May meeting report
GGF10 Berlin March 2004
A
LinkUp project planning meeting was held in Berlin before GGF10.
The
GGF10 workflow workshop includes presentations from Tom Oinn and Bertram Ludaescher.
NeSC workflow workshop Dec 2003
All the
LinkUp "sisters" were represented at the
NeSC workflow workshop, December 3-5 2003. Talks, available
here, included:
- Bertram Ludäscher: Scientific Workflows Based on Dataflow Process Networks
- Chad Berkley: Kepler: A Workflow Tool for Heterogeneous Ecological Data Analysis
- Ewa Deelman: Pegasus: Planning for Execution Grids
- Matthew Addis: Providing Web Service Coordination to Bioinformaticians
Bertram and Carole chaired two discussions on the Requirements of Scientific Workflows. Two outcomes are the rapporteur powerpoint slides
ScientificWorkflowRequirementsfinal.ppt summary and a contribution to the workshop final report
scientificrequirementsofworkflowbreakoutreport.doc.
NeSC data provenance and annotation workshop Dec 2003
Some of the
LinkUp "sisters" were represented at the
NeSC data provenance and annotation workshop 1-3 December 2003. Talks, available
here, included:
- Dr Luc Moreau: Provenance: Problem, Architectural issues, Towards Trust
- Prof Carole Goble: Knowledge and Provenance: A knowledge model perspective
