Portal work

Current crisis concerning presenting results. None of our biologists can use this.

Two ways to present results:

1. fragmented mechanism

2. construct databases and view over as build workflow.

Must be honest with users about results and viewing of these. Tom asked to show examples of integrated view.

Stef will run demo browsing results using portal/MIR browser. Stef should co-ordinate this presentation, including prior testing. A person from Sheffield will come to assist.

Hands-on and showcase discussion.

Concerns raised with workbench use and amount of people using this all at same time.

Pre -configure discussion.

Q & A session at end. Jan can gather requirements together from users.

Timetable of testing for MIR browsing activities.

Stef responsible for this.

Arajit available at Newcastle for questions and will also be in Manchester for meeting.

Set up plan? Phoebus and other machines are available. Nick will finalise with Katy.

Wednesday should be spent setting up. Ian from Sheffield will come to assist.

Steve Pettifer will present ideas for UTOPIA.

Purpose – future and current development plans. Also speculative ideas and creating collaborations.

Short presentations from attendees. Katy has a list of those attending.

*4. EPSRC, Edinburgh meeting feedback.*

Some demos.

SRB and Discoverynet people spoken with. Led to collaboration potential between DiscoveryNet? and GSK collaboration (Stephen Culvert from GSK) using semantic work.. InforSense? doing very well.

DAME – 3.5 million follow on from DTI, called BROADEN.

GOLD – DTI follow on.

Thursday talks all mentioned myGrid. Both EPSRC, and Tony very happy with us.

Rob should contact Anne Trefethen concerning differences between his, and Moustafa’s presentations.

Stephen Pickles has been asked to become more involved with computational steering and workflows with integrative biology project. Meeting on 3rd May.

*5. Next steps*

Stef has circulated a document showing current areas where problems exist. This could be added to. How do we take this forward?

Paul will arrange a meeting, held in Manchester to discuss this issue. The meeting should include Chris Wroe, Tom, Stef, Steve Pettifer, Luc, Simon, PsyGrid?, and iSpider. Carole should be kept informed.

Dates discussed:

Prefer 18th May, 20th May, or 23rd – 25th May.

1 day meeting. 11am – 5pm

Short 15 minute presentations with discussion at end. GOLD security, and information system people will attend.

Other areas discussed: mediator, assessments of lessons learnt form MIR, information model. New workflow enactor required.

Luc is publishing a document onto website this evening, it concerns architecture strawman.

All attendees were reminded of publications.

CCPE paper on provenance – accepted. Will be resubmitting www2005 paper to Web information systems. The ultimate myGrid paper is still required in the future.

e-Science conference, Melbourne, Australia. Carole providing keynote. BNCOD – Paul providing keynote.
