Feedback from Ops meeting
- Discuss the OMII web site, a Prototype of the web page will be released shortly. Suggestions welcome.
- All hands meeting registration handled by Karon.
Support hat and JIRA review (alternate week)
Alan still has the support hat, and reports:
- Some of the issues are related to the fact that people needs training, in which case, we may suggest training to these people. Or, if they cannot come to Manchester, guide them to the online training material (tutorials, video, etc.). The training material may need to be revisited or repackaged.
- Concerning JIRA, Tom is coming Thursday afternoon, there are issues that will be discussed concerning Taverna 1.6, for example the long running workflows and the issues that were raised in JIRA. If you have raised something important that should go for 1.6, add a comment to the issue in Jira.
Progress
- Long Running Workflows (Stuart/Stian):
- There is a bug that is little difficult to trace. In this regard, a GUI packaging may need to be done. We can provide an early release of the long running workflows functionality as it is and see the feedbacks, bugs and new features expected from the users. It will be released as a snapshot release to Carmen for testing rather than a prototype release.
- Service discovery (Alan):
- Issue with the annotations of the Biomoby services, * Knoogle people would like to use Feta in order to do some brokerage. Given that the issue/requirements are not understood, then we can suggest to them to visit us to discuss the issues they are having. Carole will call in this regard Julian concerning Knoogle.
- Concerning the service discovery, there will be a discussion in the technical meeting concerning the UI. Carole pointed out that a tool for annotation is part of a proposal to the BBR.
- Provenance (Khalid):
- Khalid has been working on a proposal concerning provenance in collaboration with Beth Plale and Denis Gannon. The proposal will be shortly submitted. It is a 2 year project. The role of the Manchester team within the proposal concerning enhancing the capabilities of the Karma provenance system with functionalities for acquiring semantic description of data provenance and the exploitation of collected data. This effort will likely influence the provenance activity within Taverna.
- Concerning the third provenance challenge, it was decided that there will not be a provenance challenge that immediately follows the second challenge. Instead, given that certain teams that presented in the second challenge expressed their enthusiasm for continuing to discuss provenance-related issues and work together on interoperability between their systems, it was decided to encourage them to publish the ideas and issues they encountered in the second challenge in papers submitted to the International Provenance and Annotation Workshop to be held in 2008. The future steps will then be decided in this workshop. * Carole mentions workflow versioning, Pipeline Pilot and InfoSense? does workflow versioning. Note that when people talk about this, they might mean versioning of a workflow design and it's inputs/parameters, not just the design.
- Service repository (Franck):
- Annotation of the SoapLab? services
- Frank is working with people from Southampton to see what to present/demo at AHM 2007
- Outreach (Katy/Franck):
- Tutorial of Taverna to people from the MIB
- ISMB tutorial, lot of interest in Taverna
- Writing a myGrid (Taverna) handbook - more in the style of workflow patterns than how to use Taverna
- Taverna 2 (Tom):
- Talking to Alan/Khalid. Asks Alan to give time frame for their suggested implementation.
- Tom will be here on Thursday, and will discuss the plan he set up for Taverna 2, and also discuss how to split the efforts between Taverna 1.6 and Taverna 2
- Ian:
- Still working on the Ontogrid project, but will be shortly available for working with myGrid. Ian has been introduced to the myGrid team.
Review the web site content
- Ian might the person to start looking at the web site and raise issues
Upcoming meetings
There's just All Hands that we know of for now.
Funding news
- Carole reported that it may be possible to get more funding for supporting myGrid related to ONDEX, rough numbers mentioned is 3 years and 2 people, and technologies involve web portals and stuff with Taverna.
Bharatti's experiences of trying to get Taverna running on the NW Grid plus current launch work.
- Baharati installed a Grid service and an OMII client and tried to submit GridSAM? jobs through Taverna. The process turned out to be difficult especially for end users as the user has to follow many steps (12 in total) in order to get the e-Science certificate installed and get the system to work. Carole suggested developing a portlet for Taverna.
Service discovery
- Alan specified that Information about the services will be gathered from different sources, not only the default ones, for example from the service registry. The user will be able to query the set of collected services (or pointers to the actual services) and visualise the results.
- The possibility of using tags (produced by the myExperiment team) to fetch services was also mentioned.
New Actions
- Franck: Arrange training schedule with John Brooke. ongoing
- Carole: Call Julian concerning Knoogle visiting Manchester
- June, to Schedule a meeting about the web site with Carole
- Alan, provides a work plan and an architecture about the service discovery activity
- Baharati, to discuss with John the possibility of specifying use cases for using grid services within Taverna
- Katy, send Ian tutorial link.
- Katy, add Ian to mygrid-man mailing list
