Research interests:
Human diseases: model systems to study gene expression and RNA processing.
Meeting
- with Chris Greenhalgh
- 2003-12-17, 11am, Marion’s office
- approx. 2 hours
Main issues:
- need for simple-to-use (web) interfaces
- non-programmers
- avoidance of file up/download
- simple ‘wizard’-like interaction, key parameters, sensible defaults
- lack of bioinformatics support and best-practice information, training, etc. in the university
- dealing with gene expression data, especially initial prioritisation and characterisation of ~200-300 differentially expressed genes resulting from initial analysis (using e.g. PCA, D-Chip, etc.)
- what they have in common; functions; pathways
- summary interfaces
- ?support for automation of gathering information on ill-characterised genes (i.e. where Affymetrix database lacks standard information, i.e. GenBank record lacks SwissProt or LocusLink xref)
- possible 3D visualisations of complementary and large-scale data
Next steps:
- will provide email or CD of gene chip data and analysis, including gene short-list to allow initial experimentation with 2D, 3D and interactive visualisations
- possible workshop(s) in the Uni. for bioinformatics/biology/CS; on arrival of new bioinformatics chair
