• A standard format for a location independent identifier for bioinformatics data entities. LSID spec
• A reference implementation of a resolver which given a LSID will resolve the location and retrieve the data. A demo is available here

The code for the resolver will be release open source on the Sourceforge site.

A key part of the resolver is also the ability to return arbitary metadata about the bioinformatics entity. Semantic Web protagonists from MIT such as Dennis Quan are involved.
