Bioinformatics Web practical
This is an interactive exercise that aims to provide a taste of bioinformatics resources around the world. We hope to give a flavour of sequence analysis, by introducing a range of widely-used analysis tools and databases.

Tutorial on biology (from EBI)
"This is a brief introduction to molecular biology with emphasis on genomics and bioinformatics."

Primer on Molecular Genetics
Primer on Molecular Genetics from the U.S. Department of Energy This primer was prepared by Denise Casey, Human Genome Management Information System, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, for the 1991-92 DOE Human Genome Program Report.

the DAS Project
the center of development of an Open Source system for exchanging annotations on genomic sequence data.

The Open Bioinformatics Foundation

The Bioperl Project
an international association of developers of open source Perl tools for bioinformatics, genomics and life science research.

BioNavigator (from ENTIGEN)
"BioNavigator is a web-based system for the analysis of nucleotide, protein and other biological data. It brings together a large number of databases and programs from different sources and integrates them under a common graphical user interface."

Integrated System from NCGR
"ISYS™ is a dynamic, flexible platform for the integration of bioinformatics software tools and databases."

bioXML
This site is intended to be a center of development for open source biological dtds (currently GAME)

CBIL bioWidgets for Java
The bioWidgets toolkit is a collection of Java Beans(tm) used for development of graphics applications and/or applets in the genomics domain

EBI Visualisation for Bioinformatics workshop 1999
The workshop considers the applications of different visualisation techniques and technologies to aid in the analysis of sequence data, categorical data and numeric data.

OpenBSA project
aiming to provide a freely available implementation of the OMG LSR (Life Science Research Domain Task Force) Biomolecular Sequence Analysis specification

KEGG: Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes
KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) is a bioinformatics resource for understanding higher order functional meanings and utilities of the cell or the organism from its genome information. KEGG provides a number of web services ( http://soap.genome.ad.jp/ ) and a good list of related databases http://soap.genome.ad.jp/kegg/kegg4.html

UMBER, the University of Manchester Specialist Node of EMBnet UMBER provides facilities for interrogating the PRINTS fingerprint database and the OWL composite sequence database. Links are also provided to a variety of other sequence and pattern databanks, to numerous bioinformatics sites, and to a unique set of in-house database search facilities.

EMBnet EMBnet is a science-based group of collaborating nodes throughout Europe -and a number of nodes outside Europe. The combined expertise of the nodes allows EMBnet to provide services to the European molecular biology community which encompasses more than can be provided by a single node.
