Taverna 2 beta 1 Roadmap

The myGrid team welcomes additional input into the development of Taverna. If you are interested in helping us, then please read the developer information.

December release

The following capabilities that are in Taverna 1 but absent in Taverna 2 beta 1, will be added for the Taverna 2 release for December 2008:

  • Configuration of RShell activities
  • Dependency specification for Beanshell activities
  • Configuration of BioMoby activities
  • Viewing of intermediate results
  • Metadata specification, such as description and author, for workflows
  • The while/loop pattern and conditional processing
  • execute workflow shell script
  • User Interface improvements

New capabilities for December 2008 include:

  • Provenance capture and browsing
  • Health checking of a workflow
  • Online help
  • Developer documentation

Taverna 2 will be released in December 2008.

First quarter of 2009

The following capabilities will be added in the first quarter of 2009:

  • jdbc local workers
  • Functionality to replace alternate and abstract processors
  • myExperiment/WHIP plugin
  • Pause/stop/resume

In addition, a new platform that simplifies the development of plugins and clients for Taverna will be used.

Second quarter of 2009

Additional capability for Taverna 2 will be added in the second quarter of 2009:

  • Saving of the activity palette
  • Scavenging of activities from a workflow
  • The remote execution plugin
  • The JSDL plugin
  • Functionality to replace the Feta plugin
  • Extensions to the conditional pattern
  • Ability to specify a “back off” time for calls to a service

Third quarter of 2009

Additional capability for Taverna 2 will be added in the third quarter of 2009:

  • Ability to add a workflow to the activity palette as a reusable activity
  • Interaction service plugin

Taverna 2 plugins

The functionality of the Taverna BioMoby plugin will be included within the December release of Taverna 2.
