Yes, I think the analysed approach is correct.
The difficulty I have with this one is that I don't actually know of any services that define default values so I doubt how much worth this would have. Though I do know it is possible, like so: <element name="nproc" type="xsd:int" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" default="64" >.
