I'm not convinced that this is duplicated by T2-42. Is there no reason for a service to be critical other than it being used in the loop pattern?

To answer my own question - yes there is. If a workflow sends data down two paths (which possibly meet up later), then the overall results may be useless if one of the paths fails. So, a fail in a processor along either of the paths should terminate the whole workflow run.
